Entrepreneur of the Week: Coley Parry, FRND Health
FRND Health is a mobile platform that connects mobile practitioners with care systems, allowing nurses to provide home healthcare visits to patients while communicating with a patient’s care team. The company began offering home healthcare visits to patients in New York City in 2016.
We spoke to founder and CEO Coley Parry about FRND Health and the opportunity that they see in the 50+ market.
Can you tell us about your product and how it works?
FRND Health is a platform and network that connects care managers and doctors at systems and payors to mobile nurses that visit patients on-demand.
What opportunity did you want to address with the development of your technology?
We are able to fill gaps in care and excecute on population health initiatives by eliminating the bottlenecks that exist in call centers across the country. Our tech delivers protocols straight to the smartphone of the RN in the field, and the RN uploads information straight back to the EHR from his/her phone, giving care managers a real-time view of what is happening to the patients for whom they are responsible.
Who are your primary users? In what ways can your products benefit the 50+ population?
Our users are care managers, payors, and providers. Our goals are their goals. They want fewer ER admissions and readmissions, healthier and more satisfied patients, and to drive the cost of care down. We can help them execute on those goals by giving them the ability to see their patients in the home through our network of amazing RNs. We think care managers are superheroes, and it is like giving them a new superpower! The ability to walk through the wall of the home and deliver care directly to their patients and members. With FRND Health, they aren’t limited to phone calls and text messages any more.
How did you assemble your team?
We have a team dedicated to transforming healthcare built out of some of the most innovative companies in the industry today. We’re still building it, and won’t stop any time soon.
How has FRND the company differed from what you envisioned it would be (if at all)?
Anyone that says they built exactly what they envisioned is not telling the truth. We learn new things every day. The central premise is there, but just about everything I thought I knew was wrong or sideways. And that’s probably still true!
What do you wish you had known before developing your concept?
Where do I start…everything I think I know today about care management I didn’t know when we started. I had to bring amazing people on board to teach me and learn side-by-side.
What most excites you about the aging and / or health technology market?
We got into this space to help figure out how to cope with the massive demographic shift in the US. This is a ticking timebomb. We have to create new ways to lower the cost of care while keeping people healthy and at home. We are going to do that with tech, people, and capitalism. It’s going to be hard. But, what’s more exciting than that?!
What is your best piece of advice for startups who want to include or target the 50+ market?
Communicate with the stakeholders for each patient. Family, PCPs, insurance. Everyone. Only a 360 degree approach is going to help cure what ails us.
Do you have any other products in development?
Yes. But we can’t talk about them yet…
Where do you see FRND five years from now?
As the seamless layer between care managers and the home everywhere.
