Sensoria, Genesis Rehab Services Partner on Smart Socks & Fall Prevention for Elderly

The annual Health 2.0 conference is always a big one for announcing new healthcare partnerships, and during last week’s 11th annual conference in Santa Clara, CA, Sensoria and Genesis Rehab Services had some big news to share.

[The two companies] will work together on products to monitor the daily activity of older adults, accelerate rehab and help with fall prevention.

Sensoria is a world leader in smart garment technologies. Genesis Rehab Services, a subsidiary of Genesis HealthCare, is a leading provider of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy and wellness services….

“We all recognize the need for smart wearable and tele-health solutions that are geared toward the elderly and see the health care vertical as very promising,” said Davide Vigano, Co-Founder and CEO of Sensoria.

“We are thrilled to partner with Genesis Rehab Services, a leader in this industry, to provide the new company guidance and clinical validation to our new healthcare focused solutions.”

Together, Sensoria and GRS see a growing market in both fall detection and, eventually, prevention.

Falls are the leading cause of injuries for the elderly and the risk increases with each passing year. It is estimated that over 30% of all people in the US aged 65 and older fall each year, resulting in approximately 9,500 deaths. Sensoria will be using its digitally enhanced footwear to detect and predict fall scenarios. Genesis Rehab Services, on the other hand, will provide clinical validation of the data in rehab and activity monitoring.

“According to the Population Reference Bureau, the number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to more than double from 46 million today to over 98 million by 2060, and the 65-and-older age group’s share of the total population will rise to nearly 24 percent from 15 percent,” Sarah Thomas, head of global innovation for Genesis Rehab Services said.

“GRS is excited to start building with Sensoria a new digital innovation engine to serve the needs of this large and underserved patient population.”

….Products delivered under the partnership will be co-branded “Sensoria Health powered by Genesis Rehab Services.”
