The Longevity Network Guide to 2017 Pitch Contests for Investors

In our News section here on Longevity Network, we are continuously covering new startups, deals and trends for products and services in the 50+ marketplace. In the US alone, AARP estimates that this demographic is responsible for at least $7.1 trillion in annual economic activity.

In this week’s Guide, we’ve put together a short list of upcoming pitch events for investors new to the space who would like a quick way to see what kind of companies are out there looking for capital. (Note for entrepreneurs: deadlines for two of the three events are passed but it’s never too early to start planning for next year.)

AARP Innovation@50+ LivePitch

This year’s two-day pitch contest will focus on two separate themes: Caregiving Technology and Financial Technology. The Pitch Event takes place April 12-13 in Mountain View, CA.

20 finalists (10 from each category) will give their 3-minute pitches in front of a panel of judges as well as an AARP consumer audience, and answer questions from both.

The event will also include keynotes, featured speakers and panels of various thought leaders from around the globe with focus on innovation for the 50+ market. Check out keynote speakers and the agenda here.

Representing 38 million members, the power of AARP takes this pitch event up a notch. Only AARP’s Innovation@50+ LivePitch creates a dual-pitch event that also provides an audience of 100+ actual intended end user consumers who listen to the pitches and share feedback in real time, providing the companies absolutely invaluable market data on the spot.

The deadline for entrepreneurs to submit an entry for the LivePitch was Feb 10, but you can still register to attend at the early bird rate of $99 until March 2.

What’s Next Boomer Venture Summit

This Summit is a one-day event on March 23rd at the Hyatt Regency, Chicago, IL. Sessions center on the theme of “The New Economy: Seizing the Longevity Opportunity”.

Among the “break-out sessions” is a 50-minute Pitch Event called “What’s Next Pitch for Distribution,” where two companies will present their pitches to a panel of judges as well as potential distribution partners. This year’s presenters are: Robert O. Wray, Jr., Rear Admiral, US Navy (ret) & CEO of BlueStar HonorCare and Nick Desai, CEO & Co-Founder of Heal, Inc.

[These] entrepreneurs will pitch investors and distribution partners for feedback and potential deals. The session will begin with Investors and partners discussing what they look for in partners, what trends that will dominate the longevity market in the coming year.

AARP’s own Jeff Makowka, Director, Market Innovation will moderate the session and among the judges will be Jennifer Draklellis, Senior Director of Innovation and Business Development for UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement as well as Dave Austin, Managing Director of Influent50, An AARP Services Agency.
